Upcycled Clothes

I am especially interested in natural plant dyes like indigo that yield such a vibrant blue, or insect carcasses such as cochineal that can transform into fuscia or the most subtle pink. I’ve also been introduced to synthetic dyes, which definitely are fun to play with, and stenciling or painting over fabric with acrylic paint. Drawing with bleach has added a whole new vibe to standard jean jackets, and as always I am fascinated with vintage lace, and fabric scraps. Recently I’ve learned so much through my mentorship (and friendship!) with local artist, Deborah Stone, pictured to the left. We are both wearing outfits we made!
